In celebration of the new Sleeping Bear Press book D Is for Democracy: A Citizen's Alphabet, we invite students from grades 3-8 across the nation to participate in the new "Grassroots Volunteer" campaign. Your class's proposal for supporting worthy causes could come to life with the help of a $1,000 grant to your school. Five school winners will be announced on Jan. 20, 2005. Grants for the Humanities

New from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): up to $100,000 in curriculum development, and up to $200,000 for materials development tied to humanities projects. Application deadline: October 1, 2004.
