A Poem by Louise Mooney Collins
Purity and Accuracy
written in anticipation of a summer reunion in the Vermont hills with old friends
Welcome to this countryside
where the simple pleasures
become grand
If there must be a theme
there surely will be many
I call up purity and accuracy
Consider:
how you become wed to the road
as you traverse it in the sun and rain
how so many things
move about you
just at the reaches of your vision
how earth masses
rise and fall before your eyes
how soft the grasses how alive the woods
how sad the cricket sound
at night how perfect
the bears crossing the road at dawn
