Summary of Lesson: Students work in groups of two to prepare a "broadcast television" interview with a newsworthy politician.

Procedures :
Teacher Preparation Planning:
- Instruct students to group themselves in to couples
- Have the students choose one politician they both are interested in (their choice will depend on your unit of study)
- Once they have chosen their politician tell them one of them will be pretending to be a television news reporter and one of them will be pretending to be the politician. Have them decide on their roles
- Together they should research their chosen politician using the Biography Resource Center
- Have the groups use their research to develop questions and answers in each of their roles
- Once they have their questions and answers written instruct them to rehearse their interview
- Have students present their interviews for the class

- Find a partner
- Choose one politician you both are interested in
- Decide on the role you each will play
- Research your chosen politician with your partner using the Biography Resource Center
- Use your research to develop questions and answers in each of your roles
- Rehearse your interview
- Present your interview for the class
Outcome: In groups of two students will choose a politician of interest and research that person. They will each assume the role of either the reporter or the politician. They will write a "mock" interview and present the interview to the class.
Related Activities:
Students will write real interview questions and conduct interviews with their school politicians.
