"Although I bought large print books to help the students with vision problems, all the students want them. It took me a moment to understand what was going on when I had so many requests for 'books with big words'."

Librarian, Clinton Middle School, Tennessee

"Thank you Thorndike Press for providing large print books for juvenile readers. Not only do my visually handicapped students require these books; but my students who have reading difficulties love these books as well! I'm hoping you will continue to expand your titles; you are fulfilling a desperate need for elementary and middle school libraries."

Betty W.
Librarian, Inman Elementary School, Missouri

"The large print books help students with reading difficulty to read more advanced books. The large print makes the books appear easier to read. The newest titles that we ordered from Thorndike have covers that appeal to our middle school readers."

Millie R.
Librarian
Stuarts Draft Middle School, Virginia

"Back in 1984 we got our first computer for circulation and thought we were in heaven. Then we got NewsBank. It came on microfiche and the students had to look into a reel to reel index reader to find information on their subjects. We thought that was good. Then NewsBank went online so we purchased that. NewsBank was good, but (Gale's) Student Resource Center (SRC) is so much easier to use and the kids are really having an easier time doing research for magazines, newspapers, etc. Also, the sources you index and the timeliness of the articles is so helpful. I was online with SRC Sept. 4 and found an article dated Sept. 2. I don't think that anyone can complain that SRC is not trying to keep up to date. Also, the Health Module came at the right time for Mr. S's biology class. As I said, he was really impressed. He was stressing to his students to think up topics that have to do with the skin, for example. Well, the Health Module gave it to them with the cross references on the left-hand column. It made his job and the students' easier . . . We are getting so much more information for so much less money."

"The words every parent dreads: 'Mom, I forgot to tell you, but I have a report due . . . tomorrow.' Upon retrieving the crumpled assignment sheet from the depths of the backpack, the project appears daunting. Junior must write a detailed report on Denmark, covering its climate, economy, customs, agriculture and more. In addition, the presentation requires him to dress as a Dane would and bring a dish – native to Denmark, of course – to pass. Armed with the comprehensive and student-friendly Junior Worldmark Encyclopedia of Nations – the report, the costume and dish were completed and enthusiastically recognized by the teacher.

My third grader is now a high school sophomore and through the years, he (and I!) have counted on Gale products time and time again to provide comprehensive and current information for a variety of topics in history, science, social studies, literature and more."

"Many of my students have comprehensive and/or tracking issues. The large print books help the students immensely with both of these issues. Many of my students are reading a few years below grade level and though the larger print books may be at a higher level, the students don't feel so put off by them because the print is reminiscent of readers from their time in elementary school. They are less intimidating if you will."

"The students are so excited (about large print) . . . they beg for independent reading time! They read for 60 minutes straight when normal reading time was 40 minutes."

Rosemary P.
Language Arts Teacher
Mount View High School, Maine.
